The ICAT course, presented by INDOT in partnership with the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana (APAI), is a certification program with exam designed to give participants a working knowledge of the principles associated with testing and controlling asphalt mixtures and aggregate properties. Attendees will learn how to meet all specification requirements for testing and controlling asphalt mixture properties during production at an asphalt plant.
 

With 2020 coming to a close and COVID-19 still very much present across the globe, the decision was made to transition the 2020 APAI Winter Conference to a virtual platform. This year's virtual conference drew 324 attendees over the course of the two day event, held in mid-December. Industry experts led sessions on topics from Skid Resistance and Productive Habits of Top Producers, to CCMG Best Practices and Workforce Development initiatives, to the 2021 Federal Funding Outlook.  INDOT officials, including commissioner Joe McGuiness, wrapped up 2020 and let us know what to expect this next year.

In lieu of conducting in-person interviews at the six APAI Scholarship Program partner schools, in October the APAI Scholarship Committee completed hours of Zoom interviews, getting to know students, learn about their exposure to the asphalt industry, and provide information about careers in Indiana's transportation industry. The committee was pleasantly surprised to learn that several of this year's scholarship recipients have already interned in the asphalt industry and plan to complet second, and even third, internships this summer.
